Heading back to one of our favorite places on earth! (with a
short stopover in Dubai) This time it is all about Chimps, Golden Monkeys and
Gorillas! Our itinerary takes us from
Dubai to Uganda to Rwanda, we will literally be going from a nation in the top
25% of the world’s economies to developing nations in the lowest 25% of the
world’s economies. This is going to be
an experience!
…and what a flight path!
Where we are staying:
Dubai – Taj Dubai
Africa – Uganda & Rwanda
- Uganda
- Entebbe – The Boma Entebbe
- Kibale Forest National Park – Kyaninga Lodge
- Queen Elizabeth National Park – Mweya Safari Lodge
- Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – Bwindi Lodge
- Rwanda
- Parc National des Volcans – Jack Hanna Private Villa
- Kigali – Kigali Serena Hotel
Luckily most of the vaccinations from our last trip are
still good (Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid, Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and yellow
fever) so we only needed to add Meningococcal meningitis and Malaria
medications. One of the side effects
from the malaria meds is intense vivid dreams/nightmares! (it is going to be a wild ride for 9 weeks!)
Reading the travel’s health documents provided by our
Doctor, one would question what we were thinking with this itinerary! It will all be worth it when we get up close
to Chimps, Golden Monkeys and Gorillas!!!
Mosquitoes - Yikes!
- Mosquitoes that transmit malaria are generally night biters
- Mosquitoes that transmit dengue, chikungunya, zika and yellow fever are generally day biters
- Mosquitoes that transmit West Nile virus and Japanese encephalitis are most active at dusk and again at dawn
So there is about 10 minutes in any day that we might be
safe from being biten!
I think we are ready for the mosquitoes – our arsenal!
We are prepared in case the mosquitoes win :^)
Have a wonderful trip! We will be thinking about you and wishing you safe travels. Love to you both!
