It has been wonderful traveling here, no issues and no
crowds. For the most part the lodges are
empty, which is sad, although it is the low season. Hopefully tourism will pick up for this
beautiful country.
I finally got my passion fruit for breakfast! OMG I love that those things! Quick breakfast then off for a morning game
drive… off to find more lions.
We hadn’t got very far and we came upon a herd of elephants
with several babies… baby elephants are the cutest! It is amazing how quiet elephants are when
the walk… you cannot hear anything but them moving through the tall grass. While we were watching the elephants, Kim and
I were being eaten alive by bugs… time to bring out the 100% deet! We stood outside our vehicle spraying each
other in hopes the biting would stop and it did! :^) The bugs have definitely intensified here!
Next we found a female lion in the trees, watched her and
waited hoping she would come down… and sure enough she didn’t disappoint… once
she was on the ground we followed her for quite a while, she got a drink from
the puddles of water in the road
Before heading back to our lodge for lunch we stopped at a
small village to stretch and have a bathroom break… oh my… it was worse than
the last stop!
While driving around with Davis today, we learned that when
he married his wife he had to pay 35 cows for a bride price – he got 10 from
his Dad and it took 2 years to buy the rest.
He now has an 18-month old daughter!
In the afternoon we did a boat ride on the Kiznga Chanel – it was
beautiful. Full of birds, reptiles, elephants
and hippos! This channel connects Lake
George and Lake Edward (Can you tell this use to be a British Colony?)
We saw a monitor lizard dragging a huge fish the bank, the
fish was bigger than him.
We went by a small fishing village where the locals were
leaving their homes walking down to their boats to go out fishing for the
night. The fishermen stay out all night
then return in the morning with the fish.
Now I am enjoying a passion fruit margarita while I write
this blog. OMG this thing is good!!!! The best internet connectivity is in the bar...yippee!
I’m pretty sure Kim and Gina have discovered our love for
Africa!
