We had a great day in Dubai! It was a long busy day of sightseeing, but what an experience. The growth in this city is astonishing… and there is no end in sight. There are over 500 mosques in Dubai, all were closed for prayer today since Friday is their holy day.
Today we saw the beach front, marina district (this is all
new since our last trip) and old Dubai.
It is incredible how the new modern city and old Dubai integrate into
this very international city.
We stopped at the Mall of the Emirates to see Ski Dubai, wow
people were inside skiing wearing full ski gear… it was 111 degrees in Dubai
today!
The Marina district was quiet impressive; they are currently
building the world’s largest Ferris wheel… once complete they expect millions
more visitors to this city.
We also went to the top of the Burj Khalifa, 124 floor in 60
seconds!
Burj Al Arab... VERY fancy hotel!
Dubai Golf Course - and people were outside playing golf!
...and crazy people cleaning windows - NO way!
Unfortunately, our day ended with me leaving my work phone
in a taxi… we were leaving the Dubai Mall and our drivers meter wasn’t working
so he couldn’t take us back to our hotel.
He didn’t drive us back to where we got into the cab – instead side “No
you need to get out” – I had my phone on my lap and when I got up it stayed in
the cab :^(. I realized it immediately –
Cheryl and Gina ran after the cab, Kim started calling my phone immediately…
and I ran back to where he made us get out of the taxi to see if it fell out
there… nope no such luck. We worked with
Dubai Mall security and the Dubai police trying to find the taxi… finally had
to notify work and have them send the kill command. So much for keeping up with work email while
on this trip! :^( We learned a lot about the Dubai police
department today.
So what else did we learn… while waiting to locate my phone,
Kim sat down on a bench in the Dubai mail and put her head down to take a
little nap… we have had very little sleep and have been on the go! Apparently sleeping in the Dubai Mall is
frowned upon. A guy went over to her and
told her she had to wake up… of course we were all thinking he better be
careful waking her up! :^)
Fun facts:
- United Arab Emirates is made up of 7 Cities with
a total population of 8.5 Million people (and most of them were in the Dubai
Mall today)
- Well I had a ton of little fun tidbits to share…
but unfortunately I was keeping notes on my phone :^(

So fun to see the changes in Dubai since your last trip. Sorry about your phone. :-(
